History
The Zsolnay Cultural Quarter was developed as part of the Pécs 2010 European Capital of Culture project, transforming the historic Zsolnay porcelain factory site.
Construction began in November 2009 and was completed by December 2011.
The project involved relocating the active porcelain production to the eastern part of the site, renovating and repurposing historic factory buildings, and restoring the factory's park with its heritage sculptures.
The design was selected through an international competition won by MCXVI Építészműterem.
The revitalization received the ICOMOS award in 2013 for outstanding heritage conservation.
Since its opening, the quarter has hosted numerous cultural festivals, exhibitions, and events, becoming a key cultural landmark in Pécs.
