Centro BotĂ­n was initiated by the FundaciĂłn BotĂ­n, a private foundation established in 1964 by Marcelino BotĂ­n Sanz de Sautuola and MarĂ­a del Carmen Yllera Camino, aiming to foster social and cultural development.

The project began in 2012 with the architectural design by Renzo Piano and Luis Vidal and culminated in the center's inauguration on June 23, 2017.
