Syddanmark
The Wadden Sea Centre, located near Ribe in Denmark, is a premier visitor centre and museum dedicated to the Wadden Sea, a UNESCO World Heritage intertidal zone of the North Sea. Opened in 2017 and designed by Danish architect Dorte Mandrup, the centre blends innovative architecture with engaging exhibits to educate visitors about the rich biodiversity and cultural history of the Wadden Sea and surrounding marshlands. Exhibits include interactive displays on bird migration, the anatomy of migratory birds, tidal landscapes, and marine life tanks where visitors can experience creatures from the Wadden Sea firsthand. The centre also features a small theater presenting films about storms and tides and offers guided tours to the Wadden Sea and nearby Mandø island. Its award-winning design, recognized as Danish Building of the Year in 2017, harmoniously integrates with the natural environment, making it both an educational and architectural landmark. The centre actively supports environmental awareness and provides educational programs for schools and groups, enhancing understanding of this unique coastal ecosystem.
