History
The original Wasserfallen cable car was inaugurated in 1956 after an earlier gondola project in 1931 failed during planning.
Constructed by Gerhard Müller Dietlikon, it operated for about 50 years before being replaced due to safety and modernization needs.
The old cable car featured 36 cabins with a capacity of four passengers each and took about 15 minutes to reach the mountain station.
In 2006, the cable car was completely rebuilt on the same site with modern technology, reducing travel time and increasing capacity to 26 cabins with six seats each.
The rebuild was partly funded by the Swiss Alpine Club, reflecting the cable car's importance to local tourism and mountain sports.
Plans to extend the line to Vogelberg were abandoned due to environmental concerns and funding issues.
