The first market buildings appeared in 1814, with permanent structures built in 1820 and replaced in 1831.

After being damaged in the Great Fire of Toronto in 1849, the market was rebuilt in 1851.

1902

In the early 1900s, the market expanded to include parts of the former Toronto city hall, with the South building opening in 1902 and the North wing constructed in 1904.

1968

The North building was replaced in 1968 and again redeveloped in 2016.
