Retro Museum
Varna
The Retro Museum in Varna is a unique cultural institution dedicated to preserving and presenting the everyday life and domestic environment of the socialist era in Bulgaria, specifically from the 1950s and 1960s. Housed in a building exemplifying the iconic Stalinist architectural style typical of central Varna, the museum features a recreated apartment with four distinct rooms: a kitchen, living room, bedroom, and office. Each room is furnished with authentic period furniture and appliances such as the 'Saratov' refrigerator, SMP-1.5 washing machine, 'Emka' vacuum cleaner, 'Opera' television, and various radios and music cabinets. The office room replicates a classic state department office from the socialist period, complete with characteristic furniture and atmosphere. The exhibition also includes books, magazines, vinyl records, textiles, and other household items that vividly illustrate the material culture of the time. This immersive experience offers visitors a tangible connection to Bulgaria's mid-20th-century social history and everyday domestic life under socialism.

In 2012, Dimitrovgrad joined this project, leading to the collection and systematization of material and immaterial cultural heritage from the socialist era.
