1647

During the Thirty Years' War in 1647, Swedish forces launched a surprise attack on Bregenz from the Pfänder flank, leading to the naming of the 'Sweden slope' (Schwedenhang).

1927

Early 20th-century plans for a cog railway to the summit were never realized, but in 1927, the Pfänderbahn cable car was constructed and has since been modernized multiple times.
